Common Questions About Setting Up Static IPs

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about configuring static IP addresses on Impinj RFID readers.

How do I set a static IP address on my Impinj RFID reader?

To set a static IP address, access the reader’s web interface, navigate to the network settings, and manually enter the desired IP address, subnet mask, and gateway. Impinj RFID reader’s default IP address is 169.254.1.1 – This is for all models of Impinj RFID readers such as Impinj R120, R220, R420, R700, R720, xSPAN and xArray.

Why is my Impinj RFID reader not connecting to the network?

Ensure that the static IP address, subnet mask, and gateway settings are set up correctly, and verify that the network cables are securely connected while making sure the network settings match those of your infrastructure. Before connecting the reader to the network, connect it to your computer first to set the IP settings according to your specific network needs. Once you have completed this configuration, you can proceed to connect your Impinj RFID readers to the network.

Can I use DHCP instead of a static IP address?

Yes, Impinj RFID readers support both DHCP and static IP configurations. However, using a static IP address can provide more stability and easier management for fixed installations.

What should I do if I forget the static IP address of my RFID reader?

If you forget the static IP address, you can reset the reader to its factory settings, which will revert the IP configuration to DHCP. Then, you can reconfigure the static IP address as needed.
