Executive Summary

RFID Tool Tracking System Case Studies

HexaHash designs, manufactures and deploys RFID-enabled tool cabinets, tool trolleys, tool boxes and tool vending machines from its Bangalore plant. The two case studies in this document illustrate how Make-in-India RFID tool tracking transforms FOD prevention, tool accountability and MRO efficiency for the aviation and aerospace sectors.

Case Study 01 · Aviation & Aerospace

RFID Tool Tracking Zone for FOD Prevention & Control

Client: Major aviation OEM, Hyderabad
Aviation FOD Prevention AS9100

Business Challenge

The customer operates a high-volume aircraft assembly facility where Foreign Object Debris (FOD) is a zero-tolerance risk. Manual tool sign-out boards and shadow-board audits could not keep up with multiple shifts, parallel assembly lines and stringent AS9100 audit requirements. A single misplaced torque wrench or gauge could trigger a costly grounding event or compliance failure.

Solution Deployed

HexaHash deployed a complete RFID Tool Tracking Zone covering the assembly bays. Every tool — torque wrenches, sockets, micrometers, drill bits, gauges and consumables — was tagged with a ruggedized UHF RFID tag. Overhead and cabinet-mounted antennas continuously monitor tool presence, while kiosks at each bay handle authorized tool issue and return.

Case Study 02 · Aviation MRO

RFID Tool Location & Issue/Receive Monitoring

Client: Airworks Engineering
Aviation MRO Tool Location DGCA

Business Challenge

Airworks Engineering required real-time tool location identification across its MRO bays, along with an authenticated tool issue and receive workflow. The legacy paper-based sign-out process introduced friction, delayed turn-arounds and made it difficult to evidence DGCA-grade traceability of every tool used on every job-card.

Solution Deployed

HexaHash implemented an overhead RFID zone using Impinj xSPAN readers, continuously scanning UHF-tagged tools across the MRO bay. Technicians authenticate at the kiosk to issue and receive tools — every transaction is automatically associated with the user, job-card and bay location in the HexaTrack lifecycle software.
